Character Information
Name: Charlotte Serket [Marquise Spinneret Mindfang]
Canon Origin/Series: Homestuck
Teaching Position and why it suits them: Divination. In canon Mindfang steals Doc Scratch’s omniscient cueball, and with her vision eightfold she has the ability to look into the future. As such I feel the jump to divination wouldn’t be too much of a stretch as the character has tendencies that would make them a natural at it.
Suitability: Having been completely cleared of her past 'crimes' by the Ministry, as she was in fact, following orders, Charlotte herself holds no dark magic inclinations and is merely looking to settle into a new career, hopefully one that won't cost her as much as the last.
Gender: Female
Age: 35
Out of school living location: Splits her time between Camarès, in the South of France and a manor in Suffolk, England.
Blood status: Pureblood.
Personality:
Mindfang believes she is the best. Like no one ever was.
No, but in all seriousness, she believes she is the best, and she shows that opinion. She's cocky, arrogant, and mocks others. At times she believes she has a right to things and the fact that she is aware of her ability to manipulate the wills of others doesn't help with her belief. Even when she falls she gets back up and continues to be cocky, though she does recognise that she has underestimated her opponent. There's no changing her. You can cut off her arm and she'll just get back up proclaiming that now it can be a fair fight.
At the same time, Mindfang has another side to herself, in which she shows that she can care. She does care. Despite mocking Dualscar for his own quirks and flaws, she did care as she feels she was broken hearted when he broke of their relationship. She also cares when her slave (Assumed to be The Dolorosa) is assassinated, despite the fact the woman was of lower blood than Mindfang, as well as a slave. She felt that their relationship could have moved into a red romance, and seemed to have a genuine interest in the woman despite controlling her will a large amount of the time.
And she can be sensible, and at times, she accepts her fate. She accepts the cards that the game of life gives her, and then she plays them to the best of her abilities, occassionally with a little bit of 'cheating'. At the same time, she's careful, careful enough to pay her own bounties off after she commits her crimes, which can only encourage those higher than her to overlook her. And when told her matesprite will be the one to kill her she accepts it.
Another thing that makes Mindfang different is her lack of interest in the blood caste system. She's not about to go charging out and spreading The Sufferer's words, but Dualscar says she tends to encourage red romance between herself and lowbloods, something which disgusts him. She also becomes aware that her destined Matesprite will be a lowblood and she accepts this, deciding she will pursee that relationship anyway, where as she could have avoided it completely if she had wished to.
As the ancestor of Vriska Serket, it is impossible not to notice the similarities between Mindfang and Vriska. They are genetically matched after all. However, whether this just means that many of their traits are shared by those of the same shade of blue blood, or that Vriska modelled her behaviour on Mindfang or that it’s just a coincidence is unknown. But while Mindfang and Vriska have similar personalities they differ, both due to a difference in life situations and the fact that Mindfang is much older than Vriska. As a whole Mindfang is more mature than Vriska, not as childish or pushy.

Background (AU!Canon; HP):
Paranormal
Born to a French mother and an English father Charlotte was told from the very beginning that she was the best. Both parents were pureblood wizards and so the very idea that Charlotte would be anything but was ludicrous. From birth she was spoilt in all areas, down to be provided with textbooks on magic from a very early age, as well as a tutor to firmly educate her in the theoretical sides of magic. From the beginning she showed an interest in divination, a skill she gained from her mother, who predicted she would become a fine witch.
Early on her mother’s wish was for Charlotte to return to France and go to her mother’s school, but on her 11th birthday it was Hogwarts that her letter came from. There was no rush for supplies, not when Charlotte had been given everything from the age of 5, but this was the year she got her wand. Silver lime with dragon heartstring, 8' and sturdy, from Ollivander’s and then in a few months it was off to Hogwarts. It was then she was sorted, and from that day on her education began.
Her time at Hogwarts started with her sorting into Slytherin which would prove a fitting house for her. And here her early tutelage paid off, most coursework coming easily to Charlotte. She was a high student in most of her classes, it was in divination she truly shone. Her early interest turned out to be a natural talent, and while she was fond of all methods, she took to studying through crystal balls the most. In turn this unlocked her latent ability to be an empath, but this remained quite weak due to her disinterest in knowing other people's feeling over her own future.
During this time she bonded closely with fellow classmate Murdoc Donoghue, a fellow Slytherin. Trouble often followed the two, and they fought with each other as often as against others, but when push came to shove they often had each others backs. In Charlotte's eyes she's still the only one who can be cruel to Murdoc, as she's earned it for putting up with all his shit.
After graduation Charlotte went into the Ministry, as many did, originally training to be an auror. However once her skill in divination and empathy was revealed she was quickly asked to move into the Department of Mysteries, a shift she didn't mind. It was certainly exciting in itself, even though much like the title Unspeakable suggests, she was forbidden to tell anyone about the going ons of her days. Though she did learn how to perform both leglimency and occlumency, which made up for it in it's own way.
It was also more flexible so that when she it was easy for her to have two daughters and not have her career disrupted too much. While her daughters' father wasn't part of her life, her mother was still alive, and was happy enough to help out. This meant that Charlotte was soon free to return to her career, leaving both her daughters with her mother to do so. She was still young after all, headstrong and unwilling to forfeit her own life right now. That's not to say she never saw her daughters, though the relationship was tense at times. But still, Charlotte was proud of them both in her own way, and they never wanted for anything.
And then came the rumours of a Dark Lord, that turned to inescapable fact within months. Thanks to so little already being known about them, pureblood Unspeakables became the perfect candidates to attempt to infiltrate Voldermort's ranks. And so Charlotte found herself amongst those asked to go undercover, and join the Death Eaters. And while it may not have been out of a sense of duty or patriotism but more of a thirst for adventure, she accepted.
Charlotte spent three years living as a Death Eater, carefully shaping her life till there wasn't a single crack in the facade. After all the smallest slip up could result in the loss of not only her own life but her daughters' too. Anyone considered unsavoury was cut out, and she became a colder parent, pushing herself away from her daughters even more to protect them. The damage to that relationship is still not fully repaired.
Eventually suspicions were aroused, and reacting as they did, Voldermort's true followers attacked her. The resulting battle left her not only blind in one eye, but caused the loss of her left arm, one of his followers deciding she didn't deserve to die with his Dark Mark still on her. Still, she escaped and in payment for her own injuries she took the lives of her attackers.
What followed next was a painful rehabilitation. Despite many attempts healers were unable to return sight to her left eye and and it slowly became covered in an off white film, marring her natural beauty. Her arm also proved difficult, as attempts to regrow bones and skin left her in agony and in the end it was kinder to replace it with a silver magical prosthetic. That in turn required more rehabilitation, as Charlotte had to learn to deal with the new strength in her limb, much stronger then a true arm.
And by the time she was ready to return to the world Voldermort had fallen, and it was some how leaked that she was once one of his followers. The easiest and quickest way to deal with those rumours were to undergo a court case, where she was public declared not guilty, the Ministry creating a lie that she had been held under the Impervious curse for the duration of her time with the Death Eaters. Still, as it was only natural, there were still many who mistrusted her. Returning to her job was made impossible, her name and face too well known now, so it was suggested that she take a leave of absence, a vacation, spend time with her girls, perhaps find an alternative path in life.
At the same time, out of seemingly nowhere, an owl sent by Dumbledore reached her, the letter informing her that Hogwarts was in need of a new Divination professor, and perhaps she knew of someone who would be interested? Fate's plan for her was perfectly clear, and after all it would give her time to spend with her daughters, students at the school. So the decision was easy, and she returned her own letter accepting the position and started to pack.

It had only been a week but already Charlotte felt herself settling back in. Hogwarts was an old familiar home from her childhood, and with all the travelling she had done since she graduated from it, it was nice to return. Having so many familiar faces around helped as well, offering her people to tease like the old days.
Though that wasn't to say the new faces didn't hold intrigue of her own. Oh yes, she planned on finding out everything she could about everyone she cared too do the research on. Which, she would admit, would be most.
But for now, she settled into one of the more comfortable chairs in her study, carefully unwrapping one of her more precious shrew stones*. A pure white, it had taken her years to learn how to pierce this one with her vision, but it was well worth it. Only she could see these visions, maintaining her privacy.
Focusing her attentions on the stone she ignored the cooling cup of tea as she turned her attentions onto her daughters, peeling through layers of stone to catch a glimpse of them.
Just because she was miles away didn't mean she stopped being a mother of course. And mothers should always know their children's paths, to steer them into the best one.
In her study, Charlotte watched and plotted.
